The Munich Student Union is responsible for the economic, social, health and cultural mentoring of students at the universities that it serves. It also has the job of promoting international relationships.
A single student union always serves more than one university. Bavarian law decrees that the Munich Student Union is responsible for a total of twelve universities and over 92,000 students in Munich city and within a surrounding radius of approximately 80 kilometers.
The Munich Student Union has full responsibility for the following universities:

- University of Music and Performing Arts, Munich
- University of Television and Film, Munich
- University of Politics, Munich
- University of Applied Sciences, Munich
- University of Applied Sciences, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf
- University of Applied Sciences Rosenheim
- Institute for Languages and Interpretation (without BAföG enforcement)
- Blocherer School (without BAföG enforcement)
- Catholic University of Applied Sciences, Benediktbeuern department
For the following universities, the Munich Student Union only handles BAföG enforcement:

- Phil. Theol. University, Benediktbeuern
- Military University, Munich
- University of Applied Management, Erding (incl. Treuchtlingen)
