BAföG - FAQ

BAföG funding is a social benefit that is primarily aimed at students with German citizenship. In some cases, foreign students can also receive financial support from the German state if the requirements of the BAföG law are met. Citizens of the European Union in particular are often entitled to BAföG funding.

Citizens from other countries receive this kind of financial aid, for example, if they are recognized as refugees or asylum seekers (additional requirements apply). In addition, employment of the parents in Germany or marriage to a German citizen can justify the claim.

Please note that you have to fill out the German-language application forms for this. There is no official translation. For this reason, we cannot offer comprehensive advice in English.
