The childcare centre Ingeborg-Ortner-Kinderhaus opened in September 2010, located directly on the campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garching, between the “Gründer- und Innovationszentrum” and the neighbouring Departments of Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, only a few minutes to walk from the U-Bahn. The many green spaces and the nearby Isar are great for walks, offering plenty of opportunity to explore nature.
The Ingeborg-Ortner-Kinderhaus was awarded the Holzbaupreis Bayern (Bavarian Timber Construction Prize) in 2010. Each of the groups has its own group room and extra room (sleep room), as well as age-appropriate sanitary facilities. The rooms are all equipped with large floor-to-ceiling window façades with a view of nature. The facility was mainly constructed using untreated materials. The walls and ceilings, for example, are made of wood and the floor of natural rubber. Each of the group rooms has its own individual shade of green and offers direct access to the garden. The large multi-purpose room can be used by all groups. A spacious foyer provides a reading corner and enough space for the children to play, while also serving as an area for parents to stay and chat. From the foyer, the kitchen, washing room, toilets, office and team room are easily accessible. The building is connected to a very large and beautiful garden with plenty to discover and explore, offering enough space for the children to play and run around as much as they like. The spacious exterior design was based on the course of the nearby Isar. The garden contains sand and gravel pits, hills, water fountain, outdoor toys and a large terrace, offering the children many opportunities to enjoy themselves and get to know nature.
We take care of children of parents who are studying at a university the Munich Student Union is in charge of, as well as those of employees of the Technical University Munich, the supporting association “Stud. Eltern-Kind-Initiativen e.V.” and the Student Union.
