Homesharing - "Wohnen für Hilfe"

The homesharing project “Wohnen für Hilfe” was established in the winter semester 1996/97 by the Munich Student Union and the senior centre “Seniorentreff Neuhausen e.V.”. Since 2015, our homesharing project is also being offered in Freising.
The project enables students to live with senior citizens for a small rent. In return, the students help the elderly people with their everyday life.

Rough idea for homesharing: 1m² living space = 1 hour of assistance per month
The additional costs agreed on are paid once a month.

Type of assistance
The type of help agreed upon between the landlords/landladies and the students can concern all areas of everyday life. For example, students help do the shopping, the housekeeping or help out in the garden, go along to the doctor’s or for a walk in the park - simply, whatever is agreed upon.

Please note
Although the project ““Wohnen für Hilfe”” is not focused on generating income, the financial benefits of being exempt from paying rent can in case of doubt be relevant for your taxes, with duties such as shopping or the like being rated as a “mini-job”. Due to potential questions related to taxes and social insurance, we recommend that you seek advice regarding this issue. Your tax advisor, the tax office in charge of your income tax payment or the “Minijobzentrale” will be able to give you more information.
