cultureclubbing made in Helsinki

4.2.2010: cultureclubbing made in Helsinki

All good things come from the north - to the Literaturhaus (Literature House) and the Rote Sonne (Red Sun)

Luckily, it's not only the cold winds that come to us from the north in winter - a few Finnish authors and DJ's come this way too! They pass the time in warmer climes by holding readings or playing their tunes in our clubs, until it gets warm enogh to return home.

And the Finns are trend-setters: In 2000, Helsinki was named 'European City of Culture' and in 2012 she will be crowned as the 'World Capital of Design'. The Finnish music scene is one of the most lively in europe and many musicians, bands and DJ's enjoy international regard. In April 2010, Finnland will be made the focus of all Literaturehäuser (literature houses). All good reasons for cultureclubbing to take a look beyond the pages and the turntables.

The Munich Student Union, together with Literaturhaus and the Rote Sonne, presents a literary and musical journey through Finnland. The author Elina Hirvonen will present her debut novel 'Erinnere Dich' (Remember), which has enjoyed great sucess in Finnland and already been translated into German. The Finnish cult-author Tuomas Kyrö will read from his new book '700 Gramm' (700 grams), which will be appearing in German bookshops next year.

These authors will obviously be reading from the original, Finnish versions of their books, but for all those of us who are not up to scratch in this wonderful language, the Munich actress Alexandra Helmig will read passages taken from the translated works. Between readings Eero Johannes from Helsinki will mix live electro-pop with wild visuals, and when its all over here, proceedings continue continue at the Rote Sonne. Here DJ Wiljam Basso will prove that it's only cold outside in Finnland; inside the ice melts and water runs down the walls.
