At the moment, this includes:
- Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität Munich
- Technical University Munich
- Academy of Fine Arts Munich
- University of Music and Performing Arts Munich

- International School of Management (only students in Munich matriculated since the winter semester 17/18 who have paid the Student Union fee)
- Hochschule der Bayerischen Wirtschaft

What is covered by the insurance?

Our group accident insurance covers matriculated students off campus (i.e. in their free time). So, the insurance only covers accidents that are not covered by the statutory accident insurance of the students.

According to the terms of the policy, the insurance provides worldwide cover.

The insurance only covers accidents that occur without a third party being involved, i.e.  injuries that were not caused by others.

Am I insured on campus?

Accidents which occur on campus or on the way to or from university are the responsibility of the statutory accident insurance.

Who am I insured with?

The “SV Sparkassen Versicherung Gebäudeversicherung AG” is the insurer. The “Union Versicherungsdienst GmbH” is the Munich Student Union’s insurance broker and takes care of the policy and claims.

Am I insured on my way to and from my university or the location of my internship?

Accidents which occur on campus or on the way to or from university are the responsibility of the statutory accident insurance.

However, internships and activities in preparation for exams for your studies off campus are covered by our insurance; therefore, also the way to and from the location of your internship/work are covered.

I am doing a paid internship; am I still insured?

The group accident insurance covers matriculated students during internships and activities in preparation for exams for their studies off campus, irrespective of whether the internship is paid or not.

Accidents that occur while performing a profession or trade – also as a working student – for which the respective employer’s liability insurance association is responsible in accordance with the SGB VII are also insured, as long as the activity is part of your studies.

If I am doing an external research internship, which is, however, looked after internally by my university, am I covered by the insurance of the university or your insurance policy?

Accidents of matriculated students that happen during internships for their studies off campus are covered by the group accident insurance even if the students are looked after internally by their university.

What about accidents that happen during my free time?

The group accident insurance covers matriculated students off campus (during their free time). So students are also covered by the insurance if they e.g. injure themselves while skiing.

If the 5,000 euros rescue costs as stipulated in the policy are not sufficient, students will have to find out if a reimbursement would be possible by the statutory accident insurance or by an already existing travel health insurance.

What about accidents that happen during my semester abroad?

The insurance also covers students who spend one or two semesters abroad. The terms and conditions remain the same as for students attending the university in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Matriculated students who are part of the “Erasmus Programme” are also insured during their internship or semester abroad for a maximum of 24 months.

Internships or other activities that are not directly related to your studies are excluded from coverage. A notice of claim must always include your certificate of matriculation valid for when the accident occurred.

How can I prove that my position as a working student has to do with my studies?

Your notice of claim must include your certificate of matriculation valid for when the accident occurred.
