The Student Union University Catering Department continually endeavors to increase the quality of its meals. Not only have the last few years shown an increase in the amount of organinc food on offer, but fortnightly ''theme-weeks'' have been introduced. Peru, Eastern Europe and Turkey are examples of the countries whose cuisine has been featured - sometimes in cooperation with the catering department of a partner institution in the respective country.
Certified quality
In 2008, the student union was awarded a silver medal by the German Institute for Community Catering to signify the excellent quality of our canteens and cafeterias. We are registered user of the the ''BIO'' (organic) label, and offer organinc meals once or twice a week. This stamp guarantees that all ingredients in the ''BIO'' dishes, from the oil to the spices, are 100% organic (as certified by the Ministry of Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection).
Additionally, we display the symbol ''Proven Quality - Bavaria'', a ''Symbol of Bavarian Origin'', promoted by the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Thus, beef displayng this stamp is exclusively from cattle reared in Bavaria.
Local produce from Bavarian farms
Local produce serves to maintain the high quality of the food in student union canteens. We buy many ingredients solely from local growers: All potatoes, whether boiled, in a salad or in a soup, originate from farms in Ismaning.
Organic produce from Bavarian Farms
The same is true for white-, red- and savoy cabbage. Beef with the ''Proven Quality - Bavaria'' stamp comes from Bavarian farms. All milk products and bakery wares, whether it be cake or pretzels, are also obtained from local suppliers. Even the curry sausages and meatloaves are bought from local butchers, who manufacture these products themselves.
