Free housing in exchange for help

As part of the ''Wohnen für Hilfe” (Housing for Help) project, students can live, cheaply or for free, in the homes of elderly people in return for helping them with the matters of daily life.

A square meter costs an hour

In return for the assistance that they receive, elderly people either povide the students with accommodation, pay them money or offer a combination of both. As a rule of thumb, one square meter of space translates into one hour of help per month. A flat rate is generally arranged to cover utility bills.

Type of help

The type of help agreed upon by landlord and tenant can involve all aspects of daily life. Examples would include help with

  • shopping, visits to official institutions, housework, visits to the doctor, strolls, communication and other matters individuals may agree on.

Rooms are generally fully furnished and are to be found all over the Greater Munich area.
