Accommodation in exchange for assistance
The accommodation in exchange for assistance project was launched by the Munich Student Union and the Neuhausen Seniors Club in the 1996/97 winter semester. As of 2015, "accommodation in exchange for assistance" is also run in Freising. As part of the "accommodation in exchange for assistance" project, students can lodge inexpensively in the homes of senior citizens. In exchange for their good-value housing, students offer their elderly landlords assistance with day-to-day-tasks.
Approximation of value 1m² living space = 1 hour of assistance per month
Overhead costs are normally charged at a flat rate.
Type of assistance
The type of help agreed upon between landlord and student lodger can enter into all areas of daily life. For example, students may help to do the shopping, assist in dealings with public institutions, offer support in the household or garden, or accompany their elderly landlord on visits to the doctor or walks in the park—whatever the particular situation calls for.
