Student union fee

All students of universities in Bavaria that are served by a student union are required to pay a student union fee of €42 per semester. This fee is collected by the university and must be paiid before matiriculation.

The origin of this fee dates back to the days of the 'solidarity communities', which developed in to the student union. The fees make up about 10% of the student union's income. They respresent an important contribution to the financing of services for which the student union receives no subsidies (e.g. for the Advisory Network and Culture Bureau), or is required to partially fund itself (e.g. halls' of residence and canteens).

The student union fee must be paid by all students, irrespective of whether or not they chose to use student union facilities and services (in accordance with the Grundbeitragssatzung des Studentenwerks (basic student union fee statute - in German). 

The individual universities are responsible for collecting student union fees, which they pass on to the student union along with the matriculation documents. Any queries or requests for repayment should be directed to the matriculation office or student chancelery of your university.
